Cherry Blossoms First Day of Issue Envelope and Stamp Set

Truly a collector's item, the Cherry Blossoms First Day of Issue Envelope and Stamp Set features four special stamps issued by the U.S. Postal Service to celebrate the Cherry Blossom Trees in Washington, DC.

On three occasions, postage stamps featuring the cherry blossom theme have been released by the United States. The first was a four cent denomination issued on September 28, 1960, illustrating the Washington Monument. The second was on October 5, 1966, and portrayed the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial.

On March 24, 2012, a pair of "Forever" stamps showcasing a panoramic view of the Tidal Basin was issued to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the gift of trees. One stamp depicts the Washington Monument, the Tidal Basin and the blooming cherry blossom trees while the other stamp depicts the Jefferson Memorial as seen over the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC.

The stamps are placed upon a small, beautifully decorated envelope and post marked "Washington DC, March 24, 2012 (Zip code 20066)" and the words "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE."
