The Sakura cherry blossom or Japanese cherry blossoms trees in Washington, DC were given by Japan in 1912 as a gift to celebrate the two nations growing friendship. Each year the festival of trees is enjoyed by tens of thousands of people in our Nation's Capitol who come to view the red, white, and pink trees. The Japanese cherry blossoms in DC are celebrated with the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival otherwise known as the Cherry Blossom Sakura Festival.
